Web Strategies and their Significance for Web Managers

Abstract

This research set out to examine the significance of web strategies for web managers, investigate what these strategies need to include to promote web quality and improve user experience as well as assess the responsibility of the public sector in web strategy development. The research is based on a qualitative methodology, involving in-depth interviews with three web managers from public institutions and an analysis of their web strategies.

The study revealed that web strategies play a crucial role in supporting the work of web managers, improving web quality, and increasing management understanding of the importance of web-related matters and associated costs. Web strategies are considered necessary to maintain professionalism, meet requirements, and address user experience. Results showed that web strategies need to be regularly reviewed. Content strategy is also important to ensure professional information sharing, especially given the increased use of social media. The research also emphasizes the importance of accessibility, web quality, and good user experience.

The findings suggest that the public sector has a responsibility to create a strategic framework that supports digital transformation and reduces the risk of information disorder. This research may prompt managers and professionals to consider web strategy development and encourage further research. A web strategy is not only necessary to guide website management but also to ensure that organizations are aware of digital developments. The study also raises questions about the future role of web strategies and web managers in the public sector, especially considering developments towards a common platform such as Ísland.is.
