Abstract

The Reykjavík City Library is an important public space where diverse social groups meet and make use of it in various ways. In 2021, the City Library set a three-year policy titled "Open Space for All," focusing on social innovation and democratic participation. The goal was to increase accessibility, create a social space that is sustainable, strengthen dialogue with the local community, and encourage participation in shaping programming. This article discusses three innovation projects designed to support the implementation of the policy and contribute to the future development of the City Library: Stofan – A Public Living Room, Pikknikk, and The Future Festival.
